Hertfordshire rally driver Paul Alexander has confirmed his participation in the inaugural "Sideways for Charity" fund-raising event, to be held in Yorkshire on January 23rd. This unusual initiative is hoped to be the first of a series or events to be held around the country in which leading rally drivers provide "#999999-knuckle" rides for paying passengers - with proceeds going to cancer charities and the rally rescue unit.
Paul joins Jon Ingram, John Cope, Pat Flynn, Luke Pinder, Tim Finch, Malcolm Hague and Dave Hemingway on the list of confirmed drivers, with a number of others expected to sign up before the New Year.
"The Sideways for Charity event is a WIN-WIN situation for us" commented Paul. "Not only do we get to raise funds for causes that mean so much to us, but we also get to portray our sponsors in a positive light, and introduce people who would never normally have the opportunity to experience rallying up close. The organisers having been working flat out to get this initiative off the ground, so supporting it was a very easy decision".
Despite leading on each of his two most recent rallies, the day will also see the introduction of a number of developments to Paul's regular SRM-Racing Mitsubishi Evo VIII, aimed at increasing the team's chances in the 2005 National Gravel Rally Championship. They are sure to bring a smile, or even a scream, from every passenger!
