After a highly competitive outing on last weekend's Sweet Lamb Stages rally, Team Damage Control now turn their attention to the Trackrod National Rally, held on Saturday 2nd October throughout the Dalby forest complex of north-Yorkshire.
The team's recent run of good form has resulted in their highest ever seeding to date - with Paul and Mike lining up 3rd, behind local ace Kevin Proctor in a hybrid Ford Puma, Scottish championship regular Alan Dickson in his ex-Prodrive Subaru WRC, and ahead of legendary driver Steve Bannister in his crowd-pleasing Ford Escort.
Adding extra interest to the event will be the appearance of the sister car to Paul's ex Pro-Rally championship Lancer, driven by leading Barbados rallyman, Trevor Manning. Not only will it provide Paul with an interesting comparison, but the event organisers have announced that the winners of the rally are to receive a free entry onto the 2005 Barbados Rally Carnival - perhaps the best prize currently offered by any individual event in the UK.
"Realistically, we'd be delighted to make the podium as there are some very good local drivers and we have little experience of the stages. However, the thought of the free entry to the Barbados Rally Carnival is sure to make us dig just that little bit deeper, so we'll just keep our fingers crossed for a trouble-free rally and see what happens"
Now coming to terms with the different driving requirements of his ex-Mitsubishi Team USA Lancer, Paul is also relishing the opportunity of meeting up with the Pirelli British Championship regulars again. His early-season BRC exploits were hampered by mechanical reliability problems, but now in his own stunning SRM-Racing prepared Mitsubishi, Paul is keen to show his true speed - "We've contested a couple of smaller events recently just to get some mileage in the new Evo, and the whole team seem to be coming to grips with the car well now. Hopefully we'll be able to put on a good show for the fans and our sponsors, and set some competitive times in relation to the BRC crews too".
